It was the name of one of Buddy Holly's songs and perfectly describes what I was trying to convey when painting this.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>This painting was created to be expressly donated to the 2012 <a style="color: #ff0000; " href="http://heart.safehorses.org/">HeART of the Horse </a>&nbsp;gala dinner and auction to benefit Save A Forgotten Equine (SAFE) Horse Rescue based in Monroe, Washington.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The two horses depicted are actual Thoroughbreds who were being rehabilitated at the end of their racing careers, given a second chance and placed into caring adoptive homes.&nbsp;I met them at the <a href="http://newstride.com" style="color: #ff0000; ">New Stride Thoroughbred Adoption Society</a>,&nbsp;&nbsp;Langley, British Columbia.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>I did one head in graphite with just the eye being featured in color and a bit of color on the halter and cheek to show that some horses "just fade away", being abandoned, abused, forgotten. The other head is fully painted - the lucky horse who did "not fade away" and found a kind, decent owner, is well looked after and loved, and who has a renewed purpose in life.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Here is a close-up of the graphite horse's eye:</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img src="/admin/../resources/img/blog_img/165/EyeDetail.jpg" width="300" height="225" align="left" alt="" />&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div> Sun, 08 Apr 2012 16:09:05 CDT HeART of the Horse <div>I received an e-mail the other day inviting me to participate in <font class="Apple-style-span" color="#000000"><a href="http://heart.safehorses.org">HeART of the Horse</a>.</font></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>This art event raises funds to help neglected, abandoned and abused horses through the incredible efforts of the wonderful people at <a title="S.A.F.E. (Save A Forgotten Equine)</a>&nbsp;in Washington State.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>I participated last year and consider it an honor to be asked again this year. This will also be the first time I've shipped a painting out of Costa Rica so I'll find out how easy/hard that will be.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Thanks, Jet, for inviting me!&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div> Tue, 28 Feb 2012 10:44:38 CST I'm Still Here! <div>I feel really bad for not blogging and posting my paintings as much as I should have. It seems like life in Costa Rica is distracting me a lot - even though I see horses and cattle all around me every day.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Having finished "Beach Dog", I'm about ready to wind up "Beach Cat" and am starting on a new painting of a longhorn in Alberta. Then I want to start some horse paintings.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Thanks for hanging in there with me!&nbsp;</div> Thu, 26 Jan 2012 16:11:26 CST Beach Dog <img src="/admin/../resources/img/blog_img/165/Beach_Dog.JPG" width="300" height="225" align="left" alt="" /><div>Okay, I have tried everything I can think of to flip this painting right side up.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>No go.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>So, if you just kind of turn your head to the left, you will see my latest effort.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>If you pull a ligament in your neck, I'm sorry!</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>This is a small acrylic painting on canvas (9x12"), smaller than I am used to doing. Beach Dog is a painting of an actual dog that lives on Playa Dona Ana beach in Costa Rica, along with other dogs and cats. I'm not sure how they actually survive all year long .... during the holiday seasons, they get fed leftovers from the beach visitors. This guy seems in pretty good condition.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div> Wed, 11 Jan 2012 17:22:14 CST
